Wu Zetian - The Only Empress in Chinese History

  • Sent to the palace at the age of 14.
  • Remained a lowly concubine for 12 years.
  • A great political leader.
  • Contributed to the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty from the Age of Zhenguan to the Age of Kaiyuan.

Wu Zetian was the only Chinese woman to name her own dynasty, Zhou, and was greatly reviled by Confucian historians. But she had widespread popular support. Why?
