Wu Zetian - The Only Empress in Chinese History

Some quick facts about this empress:
  • Born in an official-eunuch family.
  • Sent to the palace at the age of 14.
  • Remained a lowly concubine for 12 years.
  • A great political leader.
  • Contributed to the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty from the Age of Zhenguan to the Age of Kaiyuan.

Who was she?

Thought of the day:

Wu Zetian was the only Chinese woman to name her own dynasty, Zhou, and was greatly reviled by Confucian historians. But she had widespread popular support. Why?
