Jade making goes through four stages:
- Choosing: The jade quality is analyzed and studied for the final choice. Colour, hardness, texture and shape are the major factors that need to be considered in designing.
- Painting: The designed patterns are painted on the chosen stone.
- Grinding: This refers to the process in which the jade is ground with specifically-designed iron tools such as synthetic emery and natural garnet.
- Polishing: There are two polishing methods. For naked jade objects like jade bangles, jade buttons and jade hearts, manual polishing (using sandpaper) is required. The other method is mechanical polishing which uses polishing cream or powder. Sometimes, these two methods need to be combined in order to weave a glossy and smart ‘coat’ for the end products.
