Cao Cao Shares Views on Heroes Over Warm Wine (The Three Kingdoms)

As Liu Bei was a direct descendant of the imperial family of Han, Emperor Xian respectfully addressed him as Imperial Uncle and conferred upon him the rank of General of the Left Army.

Suspecting this might have made Cao Cao jealous and upset, Liu Bei started working in the fields every day. He didn't want Cao Cao to see him as a threat.

One day, Cao Cao invited Liu Bei over for a drink. Shortly after Liu Bei arrived, dark clouds started to gather. As they were exchanging views on the heroes of the present day, Liu Bei pretended to be terrified of the thunder and dropped his chopsticks. This made Cao Cao secretly happy and relieved.

Just then, a soldier arrived and informed both gentlemen that Gongsun Zan had been defeated by Yuan Shao, and that Yuan Shu is preparing to submit himself to Yuan Shao.

Liu Bei quickly seized this opportunity to distance himself from Cao Cao and volunteered to stop Yuan Shu. He defeated Yuan Shu in Xuzhou, rallied his own troops and prepared for a confrontation with Cao Cao.
