In the article, 'How to Spot a Fake: Porcelain' (in link below), forgery expert Curtis Dowling, "If you just buy yourself a book of marks, there's a very good chance you're going know exactly what you're looking at very quickly."
While I agree that a book of marks may help me identify certain marks, I won't go so far as to say that it can definitely aid in the tedious task of authenticating a piece of porcelain.
